In the correct way of wearing Zori with traditional Kimono, your heel should extend about 1 cm to 2 cm off the back of Zori. If Zori fits flush with the back of your heel or protrudes further, you are likely to accidentally step onto the hem of your kimono or splash mud/dirt over your outfit.
